Teenager seriously injured after speedboat hits paddleboard

A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured after a speedboat collided with his paddleboard near Rantzausminde Harbour, about five kilometres from Svendborg, Fyns Politi told DR.

The boy was on a paddleboard when the speedboat, carrying five other teenagers, lost control and struck him. The group of seven, who knew each other, had been out on the water together—two on paddleboards and five in the speedboat. The 17-year-old was the only one injured.

He was taken to Odense University Hospital, but authorities have not disclosed the extent of his injuries. His next of kin have been notified.

Duty officer Henrik Strauss said there was no suspicion of alcohol involvement. Police will review interview statements and video footage to determine the cause of the accident.
