Overnight stays decrease by 6% in Iceland for June, corrected statistics reveal

In June, the number of overnight stays in Icelandic accommodations decreased by 6% nationally, according to revised statistics from Statistics Iceland. Initially, the agency reported an increase of 2.8% across the country and a rise of over 20% in the capital region.

The Icelandic Tourism Association expressed surprise at these figures, which were disseminated earlier, stating that according to detailed data from the company Godo, the overall number of overnight stays had actually declined. Godo reported a decrease of 10% nationwide and a 4% drop in the capital area.

Following this, Statistics Iceland issued a corrected announcement, revealing that total overnight stays in hotels for June were nearly 480,000, down from 510,000 the previous year. The capital region contributed over 234,000 of these, reflecting a slight increase of 1.1% compared to 2023 according to their data.
