Man drowns at Salo beach while playing with child

A man drowned at Märynummi beach in Salo on Sunday, according to a statement from the Southwest Finland Police Department.

The adult man, of foreign background, submerged while playing with a child in the water. Bystanders noticed him go under, and a volunteer firefighter pulled him from the water. Despite resuscitation attempts, he was declared dead at the scene.

The water at the location is about two meters deep. Crisis support has been arranged for the family and for the young people who assisted in the rescue.

Police and the Southwest Finland Rescue Department were alerted to the incident on Hirventie in Salo at 14:10.
