Meteorologists have warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rain across southern Norway this weekend, urging festivalgoers and World Cup viewers to stay alert.

The Norwegian Meteorological Institute initially issued a lightning and thunderstorm warning for Saturday morning but later withdrew it, as the risk was deemed lower. However, meteorologist Patrick Stoll said conditions may still prompt a new alert for Saturday afternoon and evening.

“The risk period has shifted later in the day,” Stoll said. Central regions, particularly Innlandet, as well as Akershus, Østfold, and Trøndelag, are most exposed. Strong winds, squalls, and short bursts of heavy rain are also expected, especially in Møre og Romsdal and along the western coast.

Stoll advised those outdoors to avoid open fields and trees, seek shelter indoors or in a vehicle, and avoid bathing. He recommended carrying rain gear and monitoring forecasts via the Yr app.

Sunday’s outlook is brighter, with temperatures in eastern Norway possibly exceeding 20°C, reaching 22°C in Vestfold. Northern Norway, however, will see persistent rain, with Finnmark facing overcast skies and Nordland experiencing autumn-like conditions over the weekend.
