All local train services in North Zealand have been suspended after staff at the Hillerød control centre called in sick, operator Lokaltog confirmed on Thursday.

Stig Allan Nielsen, Lokaltog’s operations director, told DR it remains “very doubtful” whether replacement buses will run on Friday, though efforts are underway to secure buses for the weekend.

The sick leave follows a preliminary report this week by the Danish Accident Investigation Board, which found that human error likely caused an April derailment on the Gribskov line.

Asked if the sick leave is linked to the April incident or the investigation, Nielsen declined to speculate.

Marianne Frederik (Ø), chair of the traffic and regional development committee, said authorities would contact Movia to arrange replacement buses but noted demand is high due to ongoing rail disruptions nationwide.

Lars Gaardhøj (S), regional council chair, called the situation “very unsatisfactory” and urged Movia and Lokaltog to resolve the issue quickly, prioritising dialogue with staff and securing buses in the interim.
