A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison by the Helsinki Court of Appeals for a series of sexual offenses against minors, Yle reports.
The crimes, committed between 2006 and 2021, came to light in 2021 following an anonymous online tip. The man, identified as Niko Kristian Korp, was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, multiple counts of sexual abuse of a child, and four counts of possession of indecent images of children.
The district court had initially sentenced him to approximately 8.5 years in prison. The Court of Appeals increased the sentence due to the systematic and premeditated nature of the crimes, which involved multiple underage victims.
According to the court, the man systematically targeted girls aged 13โ15, with the youngest victims being 11 years old, through various online forums. He deceived them about his age, established contact, and manipulated them into sexual acts. He met some victims in person and had sexual intercourse with them on multiple occasions.
The man secretly recorded the acts using screen capture software and hidden cameras in his home. The Court of Appeals also increased compensation for some of the victims.
The man was found criminally responsible following a mental health evaluation. The Court of Appeals issued a ruling on seven separate judgments from the Helsinki District Court.
