Norwegian MP Morten Wold sentenced to 24 days in prison
Norwegian MP Morten Wold of the Progress Party has been sentenced to 24 days in prison for drink driving, reports Drammens Tidende.
Wold, who recently stepped down as deputy speaker of the Storting, was also fined 150,000 NOK and given a two-year and three-month driving ban, retroactive to April this year. He accepted the verdict in Buskerud District Court in Hokksund, where he had admitted to the offence.
He was stopped on the E18 motorway in Sandvika during Easter with a blood alcohol level of 2.06‰. Wold told the court he had been on leave and had been drinking over the holiday period. He stated he had slept for many hours that day before deciding to drive to Oslo, where he was pulled over. He denied drinking immediately before or during the drive but acknowledged he may have consumed alcohol after waking up that morning.
“I emphasise that I have never driven under the influence before, and I deeply regret it,” Wold said.
