Driving an electric car from Aalborg to Lake Garda in Italy costs half as much in fuel as a petrol car, according to calculations by Nykredit and Spar Nord.
The petrol car requires 3,200 kroner in fuel for the trip, while the electric car needs only 1,600 kroner.
Elbil owner Kim Jakobsen, speaking at Haverslev Pendlerplads, said the 1,600 kroner saving could go towards extra food, wine, or accommodation.
Fellow electric car driver Smilla Schlägerberger acknowledged the savings but questioned whether the time spent charging on the journey would be worth it, especially on the return trip.
Nykredit and Spar Nord also suggest saving money on self-drive holidays by bringing packed meals instead of buying food at service stations or restaurants, cooking more meals yourself, driving at lower speeds to improve fuel efficiency, and refuelling away from motorways where prices are often lower.
