Man in his 20s dies in Trondheim swimming accident

A man in his 20s died in a swimming accident in Trondheim in the early hours of Wednesday, according to Dagbladet.

Emergency services responded to Kyvannet lake at 02:39 after reports that a person had gone underwater. Two friends had been fishing and later decided to swim, when one disappeared beneath the surface, police operations leader Christopher James White told the paper.

A major rescue operation was launched, with dive teams and an air ambulance assisting in the search. The man was found 15 minutes later and received life-saving treatment at the scene, but was pronounced dead.

Police stated the incident appears to have been an accident. The man was a Trondheim resident. Next of kin have been notified.
