Drivers under influence surge in Northern Region during Ólavsøku festival

Recent data indicates a significant increase in drivers operating vehicles under the influence of substances, including alcohol.
Yesterday afternoon at 3 PM, a driver was apprehended for being impaired by drugs, and the same incident occurred at 3 AM this morning. Both incidents took place in the Northern Region.
During the recent Ólavsøku festival and the days following, six drivers were caught driving while under the influence. According to the police, two of these individuals had consumed alcohol, while four had used drugs.
In response to this concerning trend, the government is paying close attention to the issue. A proposal to amend the traffic laws is anticipated to be presented this autumn.
Driving under the influence of drugs is becoming an increasingly problematic issue. Therefore, the government believes it is essential to review and update regulations regarding drug-impaired driving in the traffic legislation.
