Nearly 94% of Faroe Islands residents hold permanent residency

Some 93.7% of people living in the Faroe Islands held permanent residency as of May, according to the Faroese statistical agency Hagstovan.

The largest group of permanent residents from abroad are from Asia, with 1,078 holding such status. Of these, 321 are originally from Asia.

Faroese permanent residency is granted to those who have lived in the islands for half their life or for seven out of the last ten consecutive years. The Faroe Islands had a population of 55,348 as of 1 May.
