The Faroese Maritime Authority (Sjóvinnustýrið) will publish guidance on its website detailing how to report accidents, fatalities, and incidents involving Faroese or foreign vessels in Faroese waters, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The guidance follows a new regulation requiring shipowners and operators to notify the authority of such events. The Faroese Shipowners’ Association had called for clear instructions on reporting procedures, including required information, possible reporting forms, and how to submit reports during and outside normal office hours.
Under the regulation, the authority will annually report fatalities on board vessels to the International Labour Organization (ILO), a UN agency governing labour standards and working conditions.
