Former Swedish foreign minister Margaretha af Ugglas dies at 87

Margaretha af Ugglas, Sweden’s former foreign minister, has died at the age of 87, Expressen reports, as cited by SVT Nyheter.

Af Ugglas died on 10 May. She served as foreign minister in the centre-right government from 1991 to 1994 and later became the first leader of the Moderate Party group in the European Parliament.

Originally an economist and journalist, including as a leader writer for Svenska Dagbladet, she entered politics through Stockholm County Council before serving as a member of the Riksdag from 1974 to 1995.

She was the sister of financier Jan Stenbeck and sat on the boards of major companies, including Kinnevik and Swedish Match.
