The municipality of Ölfus is planning significant developments valued at nearly 450 billion Icelandic krónur over the next five years. However, Mayor Elliði Vignisson has raised concerns about the availability of sufficient energy for these projects. The energy demand is projected to reach 430 megawatts, with 240 megawatts allocated for a data center that North Ventures intends to construct on the outskirts of the town.

The Ölfus Cluster, a development organization for the municipality, also includes initiatives for energy production, potentially harnessing geothermal or wind energy. The local government plans to build a new preschool, expand the elementary school, and construct a new football facility. Vignisson noted that information sessions are being held to keep residents informed about these major projects.

Population growth is expected to rise from 3,000 to over 4,000 by 2030, which is anticipated to create between 800 and 1,500 new jobs in the municipality over the same period.

In related news, turbulent weather conditions are expected in the west this evening and tomorrow, with yellow rainfall warnings in effect for parts of the south. Rain is forecasted for many areas, while conditions will remain dry in northeastern Iceland. Additionally, seismic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula has seen a magnitude 3 earthquake reported tonight.
