One dead in Ilomantsi road collision

One person died and another was seriously injured in a two-car collision on Möhköntie road in Ilomantsi on Friday morning, reports Yle.

The accident occurred shortly before 10:00 when a car traveling on Möhköntie collided with a vehicle turning onto the road from a side street. The driver of the turning vehicle was killed, while the other driver sustained injuries requiring hospital treatment. Both drivers were alone in their cars.

The speed limit on the stretch of road is 80 km/h.

Police are investigating the incident as two counts of endangering road safety and one count of causing death by negligence. Authorities note that charges may change as the investigation progresses.
