The Danish royal couple will arrive in Gråsten on 6 July to begin their summer stay at Gråsten Palace, marking the third consecutive year they have upheld the tradition, according to a press release from Sønderborg Municipality.

Mayor Erik Lauritzen said the town looks forward to welcoming King Frederik and Queen Mary, who will be received on Gråsten’s Torvet square at 16:00. The event will feature a red carpet, flowers, and flags, continuing a tradition dating back nearly 90 years.

The royal family’s right to use Gråsten Palace was granted to the then-crown prince couple—later King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid—in 1935. It remains unclear whether the couple’s children will join them this year.

“We hope to give them a warm start to their stay with the reception,” Lauritzen said.
