Kuopio driver suspected of attempted murder and multiple other offences

A 17-year-old scooter rider was struck by a car in Kuopio’s Petosa district on Hulkontie road last Saturday, with police now investigating the incident as an attempted murder, Yle reports.

The driver, a man born in the 1990s, is suspected of deliberately hitting the teenager on a pedestrian crossing. The victim, a local youth, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was not hospitalised.

Police have questioned the suspect, who remains at large as authorities have not sought his detention. The two were not known to each other.

Investigators have gathered numerous eyewitness accounts and state they have a clear picture of the events. The driver is also suspected of aggravated traffic endangerment, aggravated drunk driving, drug use offences, and a serious firearms violation. The firearm is unrelated to the incident or the arrest.
