Hørsholm municipality has reported Weibel Scientific, one of Denmark’s largest defence companies, to the police for continuing to operate an illegal radar testing facility, DR reports.

The company has used the rural site in Hørsholm for radar tests for decades, but the facility lacks the required permit for construction in a designated land zone. In May, the municipality ordered Weibel Scientific to halt all activities within 14 days and remove the facility entirely within six months. Early in June, officials confirmed the company had not complied.

Both the municipality and Weibel Scientific have confirmed the police report to DR.

Neighbour Torben Redder, who has repeatedly complained about noise and environmental disruption, criticised the move as insufficient. “I have called for stricter enforcement that would stop these activities immediately. With just a police report, they can keep operating,” he said.

Weibel Scientific applied last autumn to the Ministry of Defence for retroactive approval under a contested law allowing the minister to override other regulations for significant defence purposes. The ministry told DR it expects a decision by the end of August. Redder said police are unlikely to act before that ruling.

Neither Weibel Scientific nor Hørsholm municipality agreed to interviews.
