A man has been charged with attempted espionage on behalf of Russia, the Swedish Prosecution Authority announced on Wednesday.

The suspect, who previously worked for the Swedish Armed Forces, is accused of attempting to disclose highly classified information by travelling to Moscow in November 2025 to meet representatives of Russian intelligence services, according to prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist.

Ljungqvist described the investigation as complex, involving a serious and difficult-to-investigate crime. He declined to comment further due to the sensitive nature of the case.

The man is also in custody on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, with a separate preliminary investigation ongoing.
