Oulu police detain burglars and “challenge fools” in overnight raids
Police in Oulu arrested three suspects overnight in separate property crime cases, including two burglars and a group of youths engaged in so-called “challenge stupidity,” authorities reported Wednesday.
Two men were taken into custody on suspicion of burglary—one apprehended in Limingantulli after officers found a small quantity of narcotic medication in his possession, and another detained in Kiiminki during a routine traffic check. Both were transported to the Rusko police detention facility.
In Hiukkavaara, security guards assisted police in detaining a group of minors participating in online challenge trends, which involved unauthorized entry into unoccupied buildings. Officers released the youths to their parents but noted the incidents would be addressed in coordination with social services.
The department used the arrests to warn parents about the resurgence of the “staying overnight at a friend’s” excuse, often used by minors to conceal risky behavior. Police emphasized that trespassing—even in abandoned structures—remains a criminal offense and that viral challenges frequently lead to accidents or misunderstandings.
