Faroese health authority launches push to increase HPV vaccination rates

The Faroese health authority has launched a new campaign to boost HPV vaccination coverage among children, warning that current uptake remains far below national targets and neighbouring countries, public broadcaster KVF reports.

Under the slogan *”Two shots against cancer,”* the health directorate is urging parents to vaccinate their children against HPV, which can lead to cervical and other cancers. The authority aims for 90% coverage before children turn 15, but recent data suggests fewer than half of 15-year-old girls—and even fewer boys—have completed the vaccination series.

Free HPV vaccines have been available for Faroese girls since 2009 and for boys since 2019. The programme currently covers all children aged 12–17, with a temporary extension for unvaccinated 18–20-year-olds until 31 December 2026.

Official 2025 vaccination figures have not yet been finalised.
