Longtime Yle news anchor Arvi Lind dies at 85
Finnish broadcaster Yle’s veteran news anchor Arvi Lind, a fixture of the country’s television journalism for decades, died Sunday morning at the age of 85.
Lind began his career at Yle in 1965 as a teleprompter operator before becoming a news anchor in 1967. Over his long tenure, he also contributed to educational, entertainment, and children’s programming.
Yle has invited the public to share memories of Lind, asking viewers if they recall a particular broadcast he delivered or had personal encounters with him. A two-hour radio tribute, hosted by Paavo Häikiö and featuring guests including Eva Polttila, Matti Rönkä, and Petri Jauhiainen, will air Monday from 16:00 to 18:00 on Yle Radio Suomi and the Areena streaming service.
