Fire tears through Vantaa apartment in overnight blaze
A fire broke out in a residential apartment in Vantaa’s Kivistö district early Monday, prompting a major emergency response, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports.
The Central Uusimaa Rescue Department received an alert at 1:06 a.m. about a medium-sized building fire on Kvartsinraitti street. Nine fire units were dispatched to the scene.
Anastasiia Golovakho, a resident of a neighboring building, told Yle she woke to the sound of fire trucks. “The situation was terrifying, and I didn’t immediately understand what was happening,” she said. She grabbed her phone, wallet, and fled outside, where crowds had gathered to watch the blaze.
Authorities have not yet released details on injuries or the cause of the fire. The investigation remains ongoing.
