Teenager dies in canoe accident in Sarpsborg
A 17-year-old boy has died after a canoe capsized in Sarpsborg on Saturday evening, Norwegian police confirmed to Dagbladet.
Emergency services, including a rescue helicopter, were dispatched to the scene after reports of the incident at 23:05. Authorities located an overturned canoe in the water and confirmed two other teenagers involved had safely reached shore. A search for the third occupant began immediately.
The boy was recovered from the water at 23:45, and resuscitation attempts were made on site, but he was later declared dead. Next of kin have been notified.
“In a tragic case like this, it is likely an investigation will be opened to determine what happened,” operations manager Gisle Lindheim Sveen told Dagbladet.
