The Norwegian Correctional Service has offered to grant Marius Borg Høiby temporary supervised release from pretrial detention to attend a medical consultation regarding his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s health, his defence lawyer told Dagbladet on Saturday.

Petar Sekulic, Høiby’s attorney, confirmed to TV 2 that while police had rejected the defence’s request for temporary release, the Correctional Service had independently proposed the measure. Under the arrangement, Høiby would be escorted by police for a limited period on humanitarian grounds.

The proposal follows Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s placement on the waiting list for a lung transplant this week. Høiby’s legal team had sought his release to participate in discussions with medical specialists about her condition, but police denied the application. The case will now be reviewed by Oslo District Court, likely on Monday.

Høiby, 29, faces 38 charges but denies the most serious allegations. His verdict is scheduled for June 15.
