Oulu police investigate possible hate crime after cyclist stabs woman with edged weapon
Oulu police are investigating an attack in which a man on a bicycle allegedly stabbed a woman with an edged weapon on a cycle path in the Knuutilankangas district on Friday evening, Yle reports.
The victim, a Finnish citizen with a foreign background, sustained non-life-threatening injuries to her back. The suspect reportedly spoke briefly in Finnish and used a derogatory anti-foreign term during the incident.
Authorities are examining whether the attack constitutes a hate crime. The case is provisionally classified as attempted manslaughter, though charges may be adjusted as the investigation proceeds.
Police have no description of the suspect’s bicycle or clothing and are urging witnesses to contact their tip line.
