Microsoft has entered a preliminary agreement to purchase around 190 hectares of land in Vaasa and the neighboring municipality of Korsholm, public broadcaster Yle reported Friday.
The deal covers two separate plots: a 150-hectare site in Vaasa’s Gerby industrial area and a 40-hectare site in Korsholm’s Smedsby. The company has not disclosed the intended use of the land, but local officials have previously suggested it could be linked to data center development.
Vaasa Mayor Tomas Häyry confirmed the agreement but declined to provide further details, citing confidentiality. The preliminary deal does not yet bind Microsoft to complete the purchase.
