The Faroese energy company Effo will begin construction on what it calls the country’s largest fuel storage facility in Søldarfjørður, following a contract signed last year with Articon and Mest, the Faroese national broadcaster KVF reports.

Work is set to start in August and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. The facility will consist of seven tanks with a combined capacity of 20,000 cubic metres, initially storing gas oil, diesel, petrol, and jet fuel.

The Faroese Environmental Agency has granted the project environmental approval, though the decision may be appealed until June 10.
