Finnish investigators launch on-site probe after light aircraft crashes in Kannonkoski forest
Finnish safety investigators have begun an on-site examination of a light aircraft crash in Kannonkoski, central Finland, after the plane veered into a nearby forest during a recreational flight on Thursday evening, public broadcaster Yle reports.
The Safety Investigation Authority (Otkes) confirmed it dispatched investigators to the scene early Friday. Spokesperson Tiina Bieber stated the agency will likely assume full responsibility for the probe due to international aviation regulations requiring mandatory investigation of such incidents.
Local rescue services reported the sole occupant—a pilot—was transported for further medical treatment. Authorities had no immediate explanation for why the aircraft left the flight path and entered the wooded area adjacent to the private airstrip.
Kannonkoski is located roughly 100 kilometres north of Jyväskylä in central Finland.
