Finnish government submits revised military intelligence law proposal to parliament

The Finnish defence ministry has sent a revised proposal to overhaul military intelligence legislation to parliament for debate, public broadcaster Yle reports.

The draft law would expand the powers of the Finnish Defence Forces, allowing the army, navy, and air force to conduct conventional open-source intelligence gathering alongside existing signals intelligence operations.

The proposal was delayed after Finland’s chancellor of justice, the parliamentary ombudsman, and the intelligence oversight delegate flagged the initial draft for further preparation during a consultation round that concluded in January.
