The Dals tunnel in the Faroe Islands will open to the public ahead of the Ólavsøka festival, with safety and fire drills scheduled for July 10, the Faroese national broadcaster KVF reports.
Sigurð Ó. Vang, head of the construction department at the Faroese Road Administration (Landsverk), confirmed the tunnel will be accessible for general traffic in time for the national holiday. Construction began on November 5, 2020, with the final blast completed three years later. The project has remained within its budget, Vang stated.
The tunnel connects the village of Dals to the rest of the road network, replacing a steep mountain pass.
