Man charged with attempted murder after setting house on fire in Ylivieska

A man in his early 20s from Ylivieska is suspected of attempting to kill another person by setting a detached house ablaze, police reported Thursday.

Authorities received an emergency call on May 29 indicating the suspect had assaulted the victim and attempted to inflict serious violence before the house filled with smoke. The suspect, born in the 2000s, now faces preliminary charges of attempted murder and aggravated property damage.

Prosecutors will seek his pretrial detention in a hearing later today.
