Next spring, the government will present a proposal to shorten the workweek. The plan aims to reduce the standard workweek to 37 hours through legislation.
Efforts have been underway to reach an agreement through tripartite negotiations with stakeholders in the labor market. However, private employers are unwilling to participate any longer in these discussions following the salary increases granted to trade unions during the summer.
“It is not right to abandon the plan to shorten the workweek,” stated Aksel V. Johannesen, the Prime Minister. The proposed plan includes reducing the workweek by one hour every other year until it reaches the target of 37 hours.
