The Faroese prime minister has not ruled out accepting a Danish state loan to fund the proposed Suðuroy tunnel, following confirmation that Copenhagen is examining the option, Faroese public broadcaster KVF reports.

Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen stated that “we must keep as many possibilities open as feasible,” after Faroese MPs Anna Falkenberg and Sjúrður Skaale received a Danish transport ministry document outlining plans to assess a potential state loan for the project.

The Danish government will now investigate how the tunnel could be financed “in the most affordable way,” including the possibility of a state-backed loan if the Faroese authorities request it.
