Danish central bank notes reach final exchange deadline
Long queues formed outside the Forex payment institution in Copenhagen on Sunday as Danes made a last push to exchange old 1,000-krone banknotes and other discontinued bills before the final deadline, Danish broadcaster DR reports.
The notes lost their legal tender status in retail transactions a year ago, but today marked the absolute last day to convert them at designated exchange points. As of Monday, the old currency will hold no value.
Danmarks Nationalbank had previously noted unexpected demand, with many residents waiting until the final months to turn in discontinued cash.
