Jutta Zilliacus, Finnish-Swedish politician and author, dies at 100
Jutta Zilliacus, a prominent Finnish-Swedish politician, writer, and former member of parliament for the Swedish People’s Party, has died at the age of 100, Hufvudstadsbladet reports.
Family members confirmed to the newspaper that Zilliacus passed away Saturday in a Helsinki hospital. She would have turned 101 in July.
Zilliacus served as a member of Finland’s parliament from the 1970s through the 1980s and as a Helsinki city councillor from the 1960s to the 1980s. A fluent polyglot, she was also known for her literary work and public influence within Finland’s Swedish-speaking minority.
