Microsoft Sweden CEO addresses AI fears and US surveillance concerns in SVT interview

Microsoft Sweden’s CEO Sophia Wikander has responded to growing concerns over AI-driven job losses and the potential for US tech firms to enable American surveillance, in an interview aired Saturday on Swedish public broadcaster SVT.

Speaking with SVT economic commentator Alexander Norén, Wikander addressed fears that artificial intelligence could trigger mass unemployment and fuel a new tech bubble. The discussion also examined whether American-owned technology companies might serve as backdoors for US government monitoring.

The 13-minute segment, titled Can we trust American tech?, forms part of SVT’s series of interviews with high-profile corporate leaders on economic and societal challenges. The programme remains available globally on SVT Play until 30 May 2028.
