Faroese MP could hold key role in forming Danish government

A Faroese lawmaker may play a decisive part in ongoing coalition talks to form a new Danish government, Faroese public broadcaster KVF reports.

Sjúrður Skaale, a member of Denmark’s parliament for the Social Democrats, has confirmed that North Atlantic representatives—including those from the Faroe Islands—could become pivotal in securing a majority for Mette Frederiksen to remain prime minister.

Last year, Skaale met with Frederiksen to push for Faroese priorities, including improved EU market access, state loan guarantees for a potential Suðuroy tunnel, and cooperation on a new telecommunications cable to the islands.

Talks to form a government continue, with the Social Democrats seeking support from left-leaning and centrist parties.
