The Faroese Progress Party (Framsókn) voted against a proposed rent subsidy during its third and final reading in the Løgting on Thursday, with party MP Bjarni Kárason Petersen casting the sole opposing vote, according to a report by Faroese public broadcaster KVF.
The measure, which aims to provide financial relief to low-income renters, passed with 28 votes in favor, one against, and one abstention. Ruth Vang, also of Framsókn, abstained from voting.
Petersen argued that the subsidy would primarily benefit landlords rather than tenants. “This is not help for the tenant, but rather for the landlord,” he stated. Nearly all other MPs supported the proposal, asserting it would assist those with the least financial means.
