The Faroese authorities will release permits for this year’s pilot whale hunt at 13:00 today, district administrator Kári Thorsteinsson confirmed to public broadcaster KVF.

A total of 402 whales have been marked for the hunt, part of the same pod that beached in Sandagerði last year. Permits for residents outside the capital region will follow later.

Thorsteinsson added that Vestmanna has secured a share of the hunt, while other interested municipalities may also receive allocations. He noted that distributing permits for the southernmost hunting grounds near Smyril has proven challenging.
