Finnish student charged with attempted murder after school stabbing in Helsinki
A 15-year-old student from Maatullin school in northern Helsinki has been formally charged with attempted murder following a violent incident in late March, public broadcaster Yle reports.
Prosecutors filed charges on Wednesday against the boy for attempted murder, while a second student involved faces assault charges. District prosecutor Laura Hollmen confirmed the case will proceed to trial within two weeks.
The incident unfolded on March 23 when Helsinki police responded to an emergency call at 9:16 AM reporting a stabbing in the school’s lobby. Both the alleged attacker and the victim were upper-secondary students at the school, with a third student also implicated in the altercation.
Upon arrival, police found the 15-year-old suspect had fled the scene. The 14-year-old victim received first aid before being transported to a hospital for further treatment.
