Two Faroese volunteers who recently returned from Kyiv said residents in the Ukrainian capital appeared “not afraid,” despite their own initial apprehension, Faroese public broadcaster KVF reported Thursday.
Edith and Jóhan Petur Johannesen traveled to Ukraine to oversee aid funds collected by the Faroese charity Oasan. They described arriving by bus from Poland and staying with local families who, though initially nervous, quickly adjusted to the relative calm in the city.
“The people of Kyiv were not afraid, so we weren’t either,” the siblings told KVF. They distributed funds to buy food for those in need and visited others who had long awaited assistance.
The charity partnering with Oasan has built over 350 small, rapidly assembled homes for Ukrainians displaced by the war.
