Faroe Islands to auction 402 whale shares from last year’s Sandagerði drive

The Faroese authorities will begin auctioning shares from the 2025 whale drive in Sandagerði on Thursday, with 402 pilot whales allocated for distribution, local broadcaster KVF reports.

Kári Thorsteinsson, the district commissioner, confirmed the auction will start at 11:00 local time. The shares, known locally as seðlar, represent rights to portions of the meat and blubber from the drive, where 402 whales were beached last year.
