Saunatalo, Finland’s largest residential sauna builder, files for bankruptcy

Saunatalo Oy, a leading Finnish manufacturer of prefabricated residential saunas, filed for bankruptcy in Pirkanmaa District Court on Wednesday, the company announced.

Based in Orivesi, the firm specialises in modular saunas and panelled ceiling systems, supplying major construction companies including YIT, Skanska, and SRV. It has produced over 1,000 sauna units annually for new apartment buildings, as well as sauna facilities for hotels, swimming pools, and gyms.

Notable projects include saunas for Helsinki’s Redi Majakka residential complex and Jätkäsaari district, Tampere’s Ranta-Tampella housing developments, and 70 saunas for the hotel at Tampere Arena.

Founded in 2012, Saunatalo reported a 2024 turnover of €4.61 million, down 54.8% from the previous year, with a net loss of €421,000. The company employed 28 workers in 2024, a 30% reduction from 2023. Financial difficulties were previously reported to Aamulehti in 2025.
