A Stavanger couple who invested in oversized windows to enjoy their waterfront view now face an obstructing streetlight, after the fixture was installed directly in their line of sight, Dagbladet reports.

Christopher Waage and Jie Cheng told the newspaper they were surprised to find the light pole appearing outside their Hinna home after four to five years of unobstructed views over Jåttåvågen. Waage said the couple had reviewed construction plans for a new bus route in the area but found no indication the pole would be placed in its current location.

“We checked the maps and saw it was supposed to be on the opposite side of the road,” Waage said. He added that neither Stavanger municipality nor energy utility Lyse—responsible for the installation—has taken responsibility for what he calls an obvious error.

Eirin Jungård Berg, a lighting advisor for Stavanger’s outdoor environment division, confirmed to Dagbladet that the municipality has not yet taken over the project from Lyse. She declined to comment on whether the pole was incorrectly placed but stated it would “either be removed or relocated.” No timeline was provided.

Waage said the couple has not demanded immediate action but seeks clarity on when a resolution will come. “We just want to know when something will happen,” he said.
