A man and woman in their 20s have been formally charged with inflicting bodily harm on their three-week-old son, Stavanger police confirmed Tuesday.
The charges follow a May 4 alert from a physician at Stavanger University Hospital, where the infant was admitted with a fractured clavicle, Dagbladet reports. Subsequent medical examinations revealed additional fractures elsewhere in the child’s body, according to police prosecutor Cathrine Monsen.
“This is a serious case involving a very young and vulnerable child, which is why the investigation is being prioritised,” Monsen stated. She declined to specify the extent of the infant’s injuries, citing privacy concerns.
Police have conducted interviews with the parents and multiple witnesses, executed a search of the family’s residence, and performed extensive medical assessments of the child. Further questioning of the parents is expected as the investigation continues.
