Finnish public broadcaster Yle reported a major technical failure in its radio transmissions on Tuesday morning, disrupting its national Radio Suomi network.
The station has been unable to broadcast its regular programming, instead playing continuous music. While national radio news bulletins have aired, regional news updates scheduled for 10:30 were cancelled. Other Yle radio channels remain operational under backup systems.
Janne Yli-Äyhö, Yle’s director of technology, confirmed the issue stems from a breakdown in the connection between the broadcast system and its storage capacity. The cause of the fault remains unknown.
“This is an exceptionally large-scale disruption,” Yli-Äyhö said, noting that while minor technical issues occur periodically, this outage is severe. “Our specialists are working intensively to resolve it.”
Updates are expected as the situation develops.
