Large peat production fire breaks out in Huittinen, authorities warn public to avoid area

A major fire is burning across roughly 30 hectares of a peat production site near Suontaustantie in Huittinen’s Nanhiansuo bog, with flames spreading to adjacent forest, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports.

The blaze is generating heavy smoke visible over a wide area, as multiple emergency response units from Satakunta and Pirkanmaa regions work to contain it. A Finnish Border Guard helicopter has joined suppression efforts, and authorities urge the public to stay clear of the site.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire shortly before 16:00 local time. The cause remains under investigation.
