A 37-year-old man died in a parachuting accident on the island of Læsø on Sunday, Danish broadcaster DR reports, marking the second fatal incident of its kind in the country in under two months.

The victim, a member of a parachute club in Holstebro, was an experienced jumper participating in an annual spring trip to Læsø organized by a club in Viborg. He was jumping solo when the accident occurred. Authorities are still investigating the cause, but initial findings suggest a high-speed landing error on the beach, according to Nikolaj Larsen, head of secretariat for the Danish Parachute Union.

“Our accident investigation team is working with police to gather videos, photos, and determine what went wrong,” Larsen said. He noted that such fatalities are rare, with roughly 20,000–25,000 jumps conducted annually in Denmark.

The latest incident follows the April 25 death of a 24-year-old Icelandic man during his first solo jump after training near Odense. Larsen emphasized that while Sunday’s accident involved an experienced jumper, the earlier case appeared to stem from different factors still under review.

Both accidents have deeply affected members of the Danish Parachute Union. “In my 14 years here, we’ve had four fatalities—two of them in the past two months,” Larsen said. “This is not typical.”

The victim’s next of kin have been notified.
