Faroese state church membership rises in numbers but falls as share of population

The Faroese national church has added members this year but now represents a smaller proportion of the population, according to the latest figures from Statistics Faroe Islands.

As of January 1, the church counted 41,616 members—32 more than in 2025—yet its share of the total population dropped from 76.1% to 75.8%. In 2001, 84.3% of Faroese residents were members of the state church.
